EDENTON - Dwayne Goodwin outpaced Rhonda Copeland on Tuesday in the race to take over for retiring Chowan County Sheriff Fred Spruill. Goodwin, an investigator in the Sheriff's Office, collected 1,656 votes to Copeland's 539 in the Democratic primary, according to unofficial results from the Chowan County Board of Elections.There are no Republican candidates in the sheriff's race, but Goodwin could still face an unaffiliated candidate if one petitions by the end of June to be on the November ballot.Goodwin . . .
