Trucks collide, spill 20 tons of frozen pork onto U.S. 13

MACHIPONGO One person was taken to a hospital and crews worked for several hours to clean up about 20 tons of frozen pork after a tractor-trailer and box truck collided Thursday on U.S. 13. The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. as the tractor-trailer headed north, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, Virginia State Police spokeswoman.

Virginia spaceport director plans to retire

NORFOLK The executive director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport is planning to retire after leading Virginia's commercial space initiative for 17 years.

Billie M. Reed notified the Virginia Commercial Spaceflight Authority in December that he plans to step down.

Reed tells The Daily Press that he hasn't set a date for retiring.

Two Eastern Shore school divisions are opening late today because of fog. Accomack County Public Schools are opening two hours late, WVEC-TV was reporting this morning. Northampton County Public Schools are operating on a one-hour delay.

Drummer Vini Lopez and three others who were in Norfolk over the weekend for Clarence Clemons tribute concerts crashed in Maryland on their way home Sunday. No serious injuries were reported.

Man and 3 teens arrested in Accomack County arson fires

ACCOMACK COUNTY

A 24-year-old man and three teenagers were charged in connection with five arson fires that were set in the past year.

The four were arrested Friday morning after a three-month investigation, the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation said in a news release.
