Williamsburg woman to serve more than 6 years for fraud

A Williamsburg woman was sentenced to serve more than six years in federal prison for mail fraud and filing a false tax return.

Antoinette Reese, 46, also was ordered to pay $829,687 in restitution, a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia said. Reese pleaded guilty to the charges in September.

Officials seek cat that bit person in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG Health officials are asking for the public’s help locating a cat that bit a person in Ford’s Colony on Tuesday. The cat is large, black and white with a white stripe down its nose, according to a news release from the Peninsula Health District. The cat looks healthy. If it isn’t found, the person who was bitten will have to undergo shots to prevent rabies.

Device found at James City home not explosive

A device that forced residents from their homes on North Riverside Drive in the Chickahominy Haven subdivision Monday was an inactive prop, fire investigators determined.

Investigators were called to the home about 5 p.m. on a report of a possible explosive device on a shelf in a backyard shed, according to a news release from the Fire Marshal’s Office.

NORFOLK, Va. Kyle O'Quinn scored 18 points to lead Norfolk State to a 76-59 victory over Morgan State Saturday night in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.

The Spartans (16-6, 8-0) remained unbeaten in the MEAC behind the play of O'Quinn, who hit 7 of 11 shots from the floor, and Pendarvis Williams, who scored 14 points. Norfolk State led 41-22 at halftime.
