Two swine flu deaths bring Virginia total to 29

Virginia health officials have confirmed two more swine-flu-related deaths, one of whom was a Virginia Beach man. The Beach death and another of a man from the Thomas Jefferson health district bring to 29 the number of statewide deaths in people confirmed with having the H1N1 flu, or swine flu.

Three more deaths in Virginia associated with swine flu have been confirmed, including a Norfolk woman with underlying health problems. The other two deaths involved a man from the Richmond health district and a woman from the West Piedmont health district. Both had underlying conditions. Due to privacy concerns, the state health department did not identify victims.

NORFOLK The Norfolk Health Department's nursing teams will visit four elementary schools beginning Friday to give children and staff members the H1N1 flu vaccine. Norview Elementary School's clinic will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday. On Monday, nurses will visit Granby Elementary at 9 a.m. and Suburban Park Elementary at 12:30 p.m.

Peninsula Health District officials plan an H1N1 vaccination clinic for adults Saturday.

It will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive. The clinic is for adults only, a news release says; children will not be vaccinated.

The city Health Department's nursing teams will visit four elementary schools beginning Friday to give children and staff members the H1N1 flu vaccine. Norview Elementary 's clinic will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Fourth swine flu death in region confirmed

The Virginia Department of Health has confirmed a fourth death related to swine flu in Hampton Roads: a woman from the Western Tidewater Health District - which includes Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and Franklin. Larry Hill, public spokesman for the regional VDH, said the case was only recently confirmed and could not disclose when the woman died.

N.C. health officials: 2 pregnant women die of H1N1

RALEIGH, N.C. Health officials in North Carolina say two pregnant women were among five people who died of pandemic H1N1 flu or similar symptoms in one week.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services would not say where the women lived. All five died during the week of Oct. 25.

Beach man likely had swine flu, his widow says

VIRGINIA BEACH A 42-year-old man who died Friday at a Virginia Beach hospital had been diagnosed with the flu, according to his wife, who was told it was likely the H1N1 virus. Health officials have not confirmed that Allen Clinton Johnson had swine flu.
