Is it possible for an action movie to have too much action? For the more gung-ho of ticket buyers, maybe not, but for the rest of us, the thriller “Safe House” tests our nerves as well as our patience.

Although it would clearly like to be Bourne again, the film lacks the smarts of the best of the manhunt/spy series starring Matt Damon.

'Chronicle': Teens find super powers; we find depth, charm

From out of nowhere comes that rarest of finds: a smart teen movie. "Chronicle" deals with the dangers of the misuse of power. On a disturbing level, the film looks at teens who, in a more realistic setting, might be the sort to plot a high school shooting.

Daniel Radcliffe, in his first post-Potter outing, is bewitched, bothered and bewildered by the ghost of a mother who seeks revenge for her wee son who drowned in the marshes decades ago. She is the titular “Woman in Black” – seen mostly amid sea mist and fog.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Finally, an awards show with some surprises and spontaneity.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards featured some unexpected winners, including "The Help" for best overall cast performance and Jean Dujardin for best actor in "The Artist" alongside some of the longtime favorites in movies and television.

“Man on a Ledge” is too fast to be boring, but on the other hand, it is too implausible to be involving. Billed as a thriller, it is more acceptable as a comedy (even though the laughs are all about how far it will go).

It’s best to write it off as a popcorn movie and have a good time.
