By Craig Moeller The showers near the coast early this morning are continuing to move farther east. Partly to mostly sunny conditions are expected through the afternoon. Despite the sunshine, north and northwest winds will keep temperatures from increasing much. Highs today will be in the lower to mid-60s, slightly warmer south.

Plan in works to free 'ghost fleet' ship moved by storm

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY The Coast Guard continued to work on a plan to move a decommissioned Navy ship that broke free of its moorings during last week's nor'easter and ran aground in Isle of Wight County. The 700-foot-long Monongahela, a fleet oiler, poses no threat of pollution, Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Scott McBride said Thursday.

Coast Guard clears dislodged barge to continue on its journey

Crews composed of Coast Guard and salvage team members were optimistic about Wednesday morning. They knew high tide would be a foot higher than the previous evening.
Tugboats began towing the 570-foot barge again at sunrise. They made quick progress.

The odyssey of the storm-tossed barge that won't budge

The barge beached in Sandbridge by last week's nor'easter was 30 to 40 miles from a sea buoy marking the entrance to Delaware Bay, and the last leg of its journey to New Jersey.
At that point, in 25-foot seas, two 2.25-inch steel tow lines connecting the barge to a tugboat "parted," a spokesman for the company that owns the barge and tug said Tuesday.
