By Craig Moeller A storm system rolling through the central U.S. is working towards Hampton Roads. Ahead of a cold front, showers are developing and we can expect to see rain developing late afternoon and into the evening. Periods of rain are likely overnight. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 50s as southwest winds blow 5-15 mph.

Lows tonight should dip into the lower 40s.

By Craig Moeller We'll have sunshine and cooler weather as high pressure builds and slips past the region today and tonight. Highs will range from the mid-40s at the beaches and far north, to lower 50s inland and south. The next storm system will bring increasing clouds tomorrow, and the chances for scattered showers late Friday into early Saturday morning.

Rain should taper off to just some lingering drizzle this afternoon as the low moves farther away from the mainland. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s.

An approaching storm brought increasing clouds overnight with lows in the mid- to upper 20s for inland and rural areas, while coastal spots pretty close to freezing. The clouds will continue to thicken today and by late in the day, there could be a few isolated showers. Highs should be in the lower 50s.

Taking in a nice day by the Bay, a flock of birds finds a place to perch Thursday at Fort Monroe in Hampton. Temperatures reached the high 50s in Hampton Roads. Forecasts Friday call for mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 50.

Punxsutawney Phil predicts winter weather ahead

Punxsutawney Phil has predicted that the next six weeks will bring winter weather, following spring-like conditions felt in much of the country. A large crowd, gathered in Gobblers Knob, Punxsutawney, Pa., promptly gave a loud "Boo!" as the groundhog and his handlers were broadcast live on TV and online.
