CHESAPEAKE Two people received minor injuries in a fight that occurred early Sunday morning in the area of Harbor North Drive and Channel Place. Police were called to the area at about 1:30 a.m. and found that one person had been assaulted and a second shot in the leg, said Justin Tindall, a Chesapeake police spokesman.

NORFOLK A man convicted of murder, robbery, and drug and weapons charges will serve 21 years for the crimes, a judge ruled Friday. Deonte L. Mayfield was convicted in the shooting death of 31-year-old Cleavonne Tynes, who was found with several gunshot wounds in the 300 block of E. Little Creek Road in June 2008. A co-defendant, Donte White, is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

Two people have been charged in a string of burglaries in the city that were committed over several months, beginning in March, police said.

In six of the eight cases, residents were sleeping while burglars broke into their homes and stole their property, police wrote in a news release. .

Newport News man charged with having child pornography

A man who police say dropped off two computers at a repair store in June has been charged with possessing child pornography.

After the computers were dropped off, the store called police who seized them, according to a news release.

Forensics experts found more than 200 images of child pornography, police wrote in the release.
