NEWPORT NEWS Two men wearing masks robbed the BayPort Credit Union at 80th Street and Marshall Avenue on Friday morning, police said. Police later arrested one suspect.

One man had a gun. They approached a teller and demanded money, then ran east on 81st Street.

Christopher Devon Barrett, 23, turned himself in to authorities at the Newport News City Jail about 6:30 a.m. today, according to Newport News police.

NEWPORT NEWS A Newport News man, 20, was shot in the chest about 3:20 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Chestnut Ave., police said. The shooting happened in front of Newport News Market. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name and condition were not available.

A Newport News man was charged Thursday in a shooting death in 2008, police said.

Jarice Lamier Royal, 21, was charged with murder, attempted robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony in the death of William Morrison, police said.

NORFOLK Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of two men Thursday morning in the Freemason Street parking deck.

Investigators arrested Brandon Deshawn Bethea Sr., 24, of the 2600 block of King Court in Chesapeake, a police statement said. He was arrested in the 1100 block of Oldwood St. in Chesapeake.

Suffolk police seek man who cashed in stolen lottery ticket

Police are looking for a man who cashed in a winning lottery ticket that was stolen during a store burglary.

The ticket was stolen last month during a burglary at the Holiday Food Store in the 3600 block of Pruden Blvd., according to a city news release.
