Va. standards for trophy fish to stay the same

There will be no changes to the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament in 2010.
The award program's committee held its annual meeting last week.
"This is the second year in a row that we haven't had any changes," said Lewis Gillingham, director of the state-sponsored program.
Award minimums for two species - spot and gray trout - were discussed.

They're casting for old fishing line

Each year, anglers across the country discard thousands of miles of old fishing line.
Victor and Aida Lopez wondered where it all went.
Unfortunately, most of it ends up in trash dumps. Even worse, lots of it ends up in waterways, lakes and shorelines - where it can kill any number of fish, birds and mammals.

For this pair, it was love at first bite

Skip Spires wasn’t looking for another wife when he met his bride-to-be, but he says he struck gold when he bumped into Rene Matheny at a construction site.
For one thing, she shared his love of remodeling and site management. He liked her personality and strong belief in God.

Outdoors Report: Another state record is set for blueline tilefish

They are dropping like flies.
Virginia has another state record blueline tilefish. The latest is a 23-pound, 5-ouncer caught July 4 by Michael Adkins of Sutherland.
It eclipses the 20-10 fish caught in June by Kenneth Bowe of Chester.
Blueline tilefish were added to the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament awards list in 2006, with an initial state-record standard set at 17-1/2 pounds.
