A taste of the Philippines at Jeepney Hut

By Judy Cowling MALL FOOD. For me, those words conjure up visions of fast and greasy fried things wrapped in waxed paper and eaten on the go. But on a recent trip to the Lynnhaven Mall food court in Virginia Beach I found a pleasant change of pace and taste amid the burgers, subs, pizza, and cookies. The Jeepney Hut offers a freshly prepared, slow-cooked taste of the Philippine Islands.

Dining disorder is a good mix at Colombia-style restaurant

By Irene Bowers

BAYSIDE
There was no confusion in Francisco Sosa's mind about opening a Colombian restaurant, but he couldn't resist mixing it up a little.
El Desorden, which opened on Newtown Road in February, means "disorder" in Spanish, and that is what Sosa and his partners hope to achieve.

Brunching at award-winning Chilli Peppers on the Outer Banks

Over the years I had heard about Chilli Peppers - and its award winning chili and chowder - on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I was in Duck recently and made my first visit to the 15-year-old Kill Devil Hills eatery. It's owned by Jim Douglas and his wife, Lori, who also own Stripers, overlooking the water in Manteo.
